I suffer from reflux
Approximately 30 percent of the adult population suffers from some type of reflux. This disease can be characterized by classic symptoms of GERD (heartburn) or other more elusive symptoms that may not be immediately associated with reflux, which is often referred to as “silent reflux”. Some of these atypical symptoms may include:
- Laryngitis-Chronic
- Cough-Hoarseness
- Voice Disturbances
- Bronchitis and/or Asthma
- Recurrent Pneumonia
- Sleep Apnea
- Dental erosion
- Chest pain
- Abnormal heart rate or rhythm
Silent Reflux
Silent Reflux is reflux that doesn’t produce typical symptoms – this condition has been called the “Silent Killer” because undiagnosed chronic reflux can lead to Barrett’s Esophagus, a precursor to esophageal cancer.
A definitive pH test is an important step in the diagnostic process to determine a) if you truly have reflux, and b) the best, targeted treatment plan to get you on your way back to healthy.
